The Airports Authority of India on
Thursday issued a tender worth Rs 987 crore for the operation of Dholera
International Airport. Construction agencies around the world will be able to
bid for the airport. In addition to the main building of the airport, other
facilities as well as the construction of a three-and-a-half kilometer long
runway are included in the tender.
The airport will be equipped with a
Category-9 fire station, landing and take-off capacity of 4E type aircraft and
all facilities for cargo as well as passenger transport. Adjacent to the
Dholera Special Investment Region and the city, the airport can be compared to
a world-class airport.
Manoj Kumar Das, Additional Chief
Secretary, Department of Industries, said the airport would cater to the many
needs of Dholera and the Special Investment Region. This will reduce the load
on Ahmedabad airport and boost the airport based economy. The aerospace
ecosystem in Gujarat will get a boost from this airport in the near future.
Harit Shukla, MD, Dholera SIR, said that this would be the largest airport in
Gujarat.
