Gujarat has been ranked as the #1 state by the World Bank on the "Ease of Doing Business in India Index", the first ever survey conducted of its kind.

It has scored 71.14% with Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand close behind at 7.12% and 63.09%.Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Odisha followed the cue with 62.45%, 62.00%, 61.04% and 52.12% respectively. Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland came last in the list and scored 1.23% and 3.41% respectively.

It has been verbally mentioned time and again that Gujarat is the best place of conducting business in India and the same has now been proven statistically.

Sunil Munjal, former president of CII commented that "It is expected that investments will begin to flow to States that make it easier to do business, seeing which the low-rank States could be encouraged to take up reforms".

Gujarat is now expected to attract major investments from across the world with many companies seeing it as a base for setting up their business in India. With industries being set up in the state, the "Make in India" vision of Mr. Modi shall also be seen flourishing here.

Dholera is expected to be a major gainer and the most preferred investment destination in Gujarat. Dholera shall attract investments by the virtue of being the first and fastest developing smart city of India. It being a special node on the DMIC corridor also adds much value to Dholera and so does its connectivity with important cities of Ahmadabad, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Vadodara through a 6 lane highway, metro and rail route.

The assessment was done by World Bank in collaboration with The Union Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, the Confederation of Indian Industry, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CII) and KPMG. Onno Ruhl, the country director for World Bank clarified that "The rankings reflect the ease of doing business in these States by the small and medium enterprises rather than foreign investors." He also added that "While the World Bank has been working for many years with officials of the Government of India, this gained traction only in the last one year thanks to the political commitment coupled with renewed efforts of officials of Central and State governments to make India an easy and simple place to do business."

The study has been based on eight important areas and assessment has been done on each of them. These are The setting up of a business, allotment of land and obtaining construction permit, complying with environment procedures, complying with labor regulations, obtaining infrastructure-related utilities, registering and complying with tax procedures, carrying out inspections and enforcing contracts. States have scored rankings on each of them with Gujarat scoring top position for 'complying with environment procedures'.

Gujarat certainly is going see heavy inflow of investments with Dholera being the epicenter luring investors owing to its world class infrastructure and state of art amenities.
