A city that shall be twice the size of Delhi and six times the size of Shanghai – We are talking about the mega city of Dholera SIR. The first smart city of India, development for which has begun.
Located about 30 kilometers from the Dhanduka village of Ahmedabad district in Gujarat, the city shall become a major economic hub and a global center for manufacturing activities. It is situated along the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial corridor which makes it a value proposition for investors and companies seeking to establish their manufacturing units in this belt.
The city is also being planned in an outstanding manner with excellent connectivity making it a desired place for global investors. A six lane highway connects Dholera to Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Rajkot. It is also connected to Bhavnagar and Mumbai through National highway 8. As a part of recent development activity, an international airport in Dholera has been sanctioned and is expected to take over that of Ahmedabad in the next five years. Ahmedabad airport shall most likely get saturated by 2020. Metro line and railways also connect the smart city with important places and states of the country.
As per sources, the project has set mega goals for itself which it plans to fulfil in the next five years. The plan is to double the employment potential in the area, triple the industrial output and achieve a fourfold growth in the exports from the Dholera SIR region.
The city shall encompass an area of 920 square kilometers of which 567.39 square kilometers shall be the developable area. The smart city has been divided into six town planning schemes of which Town Planning Scheme 1 and Town Planning Scheme 2 has been sanctioned by the authorities. CISCO and IBM shall be responsible for developing Dholera as a smart city.
The first smart city of India is well planned and shall consist of a High Access Corridor that shall contain Logistic and Industrial Hub, Knowledge and IT Centre, Recreation, Sports and Entertainment facilities and a City Centre. World class infrastructure shall be developed on Dholera’s land with the assistance of international architects. Its nearness to the smart city GIFT and also to Petro-chemicals and Petroleum Inv. Region (PCPIR) shall value add to the region.
The state government of Gujarat has shown full commitment to adopt best practices and create a city that shall be much ahead of the rest of the smart cities of India. Factors like autonomy in operations, empowered mechanism for administration and high usage of Information and Communication technology shall collective work towards reducing cost and increasing efficiency.
Though government has sanctioned Rs. 3,000 Crores towards development of trunk infrastructure project, much more is flowing in in way of investments from various multinationals. Mahindra Lifespace Developers Limited has committed development of Mahindra World City spread over 3,000 acres of land in the region. Similar commitment has been made by Nano Works Developer Gujarat Pvt Ltd who has signed a MoU with state government for acquisition of 1,500 acres of land.
Dholera is growing at a commendable pace paving way for bulk investments attracting global investors who look forward to increase their wealth manifold.
